Green Day, Them Crooked Vultures Invade This Week's 'Late Night Lineup'

The biggest news in late night comedy this week has nothing to do with anything being broadcast on the airwaves. Conan O'Brien, the former host of "The Tonight Show" who walked away from his post at the beginning of the year in a storm of controversy and Jay Leno, kicks off his tour on Monday night (April 12). He'll begin in Eugene, Oregon and cover over a dozen cities across the country. It will be interesting to see what he rolls out and how it plays into his potential return to television later this year.

But there are things happening on television too. Last week was a remarkably great few days for live music on talk shows, and this week is no different. "The Late Show with David Letterman" is on hiatus this week (perhaps they're all taking the next few days off to celebrate the host's birthday, which is today), but there are plenty of other people burning the midnight oil in an effort to entertain the sleepy and the unemployed. On "The Tonight Show," Leno will have sets from Sade on Monday, Lady Antebellum on Tuesday (April 13) and Collective Soul on Friday (April 16). He'll also chat with "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan, Nicolas Cage, Hugh Jackman and Betty White.

"Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" will follow with another fantastically eclectic group of musical guests, highlighted by the Specials on Tuesday, Kaki King on Wednesday (April 14) and the Flaming Lips on Friday. He'll also talk to NFL prospect Ndamukong Suh, Green Day (to talk about "American Idiot") and "Greenberg" breakout star Greta Gerwig.

But Jimmy Kimmel will top them all, as "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" features two nights worth of music from Them Crooked Vultures. The power trio — consisting of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and legendary Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones — will play both Monday and Tuesday night. And just to kick it up a notch, Kimmel will have Spoon play a song on Thursday's show.

Coheed And Cambria Win MTV's Musical March Madness!

It's not even March anymore, but that's just what a big deal MTV's Musical March Madness is. We have gone five full rounds, run through 65 bands and watched over one million votes get cast, and in the end, we're left with a single band left standing.

Coheed and Cambria (and the fans who voted for them) didn't let their underdog status get them down. They entered the tournament as a 15 seed, but surged forward to take out the likes of Paramore, Mastodon, Phish, Alice in Chains and Tokio Hotel before overcoming My Chemical Romance in the final match-up. One of the traditions of the NCAA basketball tournament is the closing montage of highlights set to "One Shining Moment," so it only seemed appropriate that we give Coheed and Cambria the same sort of congratulatory send-off.

The group will be coming to collect their awesome trophy soon, but they have already expressed their gratitude to the people who brought them to this plateau. "The thing that has held up Coheed and Cambria through all these years is our fans," the band told MTV News in a statement sent just as polls were closing on Tuesday night (April 6). "They really came to bat for this contest, and it is humbling to say the least. Year of the Black Rainbow is our year, and their year! Thanks, MTV News, for giving our fans this platform to interact with so many other fans, it's been so fun to watch."

Angelina jolie and brad pitt spend Easter in Sarajevo

Easter wasn't all chocolate-covered bunny marshmallows for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

The dazzling duo hopped on a plane from Venice to Sarajevo late Sunday for a surprise visit to meet refugees of Bosnia's 1992-95 civil war.

"They are in Bosnia to visit the sites run by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees," UNHCR spokeswoman Aida Prljaca told Agence France Presse.

No word on if Brangie have their brood in tow and Prljaca claims they'll have no contact with media during their jaunt.

An all-girls school in Tangi, Afghanistan, began its first semester last month thanks to a $75,000 donation from Goodwill Ambassador Angelina.

And here you thought your post-spring cleaning contribution was hefty.

Justin Bieber is ready to fight the power.

The teen YouTube sensation turned pop superstar is standing by his manager, who was busted today for his role in a stampede during a promotion appearance by the 16-year-old singer at a Long Island mall.

Scott "Scooter" Braun turned himself into Nassau County police and pleaded not guilty today on charges of reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance for what became a serious case of Bieber Fever.

"You've got my total support. Wish you were here in Chicago with us," Bieber tweeted earlier today after arriving in the Windy City for a concert sporting a "Free Scooter" T-shirt.

Lady GaGa ft. Beyonce - "Telephone"

You can't blame a man for getting confused. I mean, one minute a woman (and her friend) is purring away at you in breathy, panting tones, demanding that you call her on your video phone so she can show you how naughty she is - and the next, they're telling you not to call at all.

With so much contradiction going on, it's a wonder any fellas keep persisting. But then again, the women concerned aren't exactly average. After the innuendo-riddled (but slightly rubbish) 'come and get me' sexiness of Beyonce's 'Video Phone' featuring Lady Gaga, the superstar pair are back with another telephone-themed collaboration, and this time it seems they're no longer in the mood.

(Video isn't ready yet. It's gonna be another eye-peeler, innit)

For starters, it's GaGa's show this time around, and she's decided she's had quite enough of her man calling, and that she'd much rather be on the dancefloor than talking to him. Plus she hasn't got a signal in the club anyway, which she's trying to tell him, but he just keeps on calling regardless.

At this point you can't help but wonder why no-one suggested to GaGa that she turn her phone off altogether, but if she was wearing those funny fangs at the time then maybe no-one was brave enough. Or maybe they did try but she just couldn't hear them over the music; whatever...

'Telephone' is a pure dancefloor track, yet it also provides a platform for GaGa to show us the sweeter side of her voice. Starting off simple, melodic and slow, the song kicks in after the first verse by shattering your expectations of a ballad. It's got stuttering (and lots of it), it's repetitive, and it's catchy. And if the words don't rhyme - like "play" and "hand", then Gaga just adds an 'eh' on the end, and everything works out fine.

Beyonce comes in somewhere in the middle, providing a semi-rapped vocal which is strong and provides the 'girl power' element. If you like her voice on 'Diva', you'll like this.

In short - and totally against the way modern technology is developing - 'Telephone' more than makes up for where 'Video Phone' fell short, and definitely feels more like the kind of song that you'd expect from such a superstar collaboration.

Your request is being processed... 'Alice In Wonderland' Boycotted By UK Movie Chain

LONDON — British movie theater chain Odeon will not show Tim Burton's fantasy adventure "Alice in Wonderland" in Britain, Ireland and Italy because of a dispute over the timing of the film's DVD release, the company said Tuesday.

Odeon objects to Walt Disney Pictures' decision to leave only 12 weeks between the film's theatrical and DVD releases in those countries, rather than the usual 17 weeks.

Odeon said it had invested "considerable sums of money" in digital projection equipment to show 3D films, and a shorter window to screen films would undermine its investment.

The company said it feared Disney's proposals would "inevitably set a new benchmark" and a 12-week gap would become common.

Disney said it wants the shorter window in part to fight piracy, but does not plan to introduce it for every film.

"We have to approach this with some sort of flexibility," a spokesman said on condition of anonymity in keeping with British corporate policy. "In a digital world, it is increasingly hard to say 17-week windows work in every case in every market in what is a very delicate commercial ecosystem."

Odeon is one of Europe's largest cinema chains, with 110 Odeon and UCI-branded theaters in Britain. Its screens in Germany, Austria, Spain and Portugal will show "Alice in Wonderland" because there is a longer gap between theatrical and DVD release.

Other cinema chains in Britain have expressed disquiet about Disney's move, but so far none has said it will not show the movie.

The Vue chain said Tuesday it would show the movie in its 69 cinemas in Britain and Ireland. The Cineworld chain said last week it had reached a "satisfactory compromise" with Disney and would show "Alice in Wonderland" on more than 150 screens in Britain.

Alice in the wonderland Top 1 movies in hollywood

I went into this film without high expectations. I saw so many ways it could go wrong, and many of Burton's more recent films have left me feeling somewhat indifferent. However, all my fears were for naught. I adored the film, without reservation. Indeed, this is not only one of Burton's best films, it is probably the best screen adaptation of Lewis Carroll ever (with the possible exception of Jan Svankmajer's Neco z Alenky from 1988). It isn't often that a film ends and I immediately want to see it again, but that's how Burton's Alice in Wonderland affected me. The cast is flawless, top to bottom. The film's vision comes the closest anyone has come to capturing the frenetic, nonsensical impossibility of Wonderland (and I loved the whole "Underland" thing). I'm hearing all sorts of bizarre negative criticisms, though none with merit. This is a bold and triumphant film, one that finally addresses, without holding back, the darkness and complexity and maturity of Carroll's writing. I will add that I saw it in 2-D, and was pleased that Burton avoided letting the 3-D thing ruin the movie, as is so often the case with that sadly popular gimmick. The film is a giddy, hallucinatory, unrelenting dance of shadow and light, hilarious and heartbreaking, brash and underscored, possessed of all the marvelously contradictory oppositions that characterize the source material. For the first time, I think, it felt as though Alice were truly an integral part of the landscape, and not just some baffled Victorian tourist passing through. And the climactic battle with the Jabberwocky...just wow. I cannot recommend this film strongly enough. (--Caitlín R. Kiernan)
